The red belt charts are the original 24 techniques used in my book, “The Medical Implications of Karate Blows”, also known as “Deadly Karate Blows”, continuously published since 1969, which is only now available at my website and amazon. This book should be used to educate the student as to the deadly seriousness of the blows executed in the martial arts. This way, one can take the responsibility for their actions. And thusly, one will use only appropriate targets to do the job (no excuses for damaging someone unnecessarily).
The medical drawings have been made into large flip-charts for lecture aids. I have, for the purpose of demonstrating how one could add standing ju jitsu techniques to karate, included follow-up ju jitsu techniques to the end of each red belt karate move. As always --- which follow up you use is different depending upon the opportunity presented at the time. It’s anything that you easily fall into without too much thinking. It comes from your subconscious, associating body positions and angles, etc. After a while, it’s “no mind”. And, as always, nothing is written in stone. Nothing you can do is wrong. What looks like a mistake is just another spontaneous opportunity. IMA’s ultimate experience is the principle of the “big bang”. This is where your personal creativity, intuition and spontaneity all converge to create the perfect response, or flow in any situation; not just IMA. An example would be in baseball when one connects with a perfect pitch, and the swing of the bat hits and produces the effortless over-the-fence and out of the ballpark hit. Everything comes together in perfect unison. That perfection is the “big bang” principle.
